The ICRISAT-HOPE Project Management Team

Roles of the Principal Investigator:

  • Provide overall guidance to the Project Manager for the implementation of the project
  • Provide feedback on project performance and other issues to ICRISAT’s senior management via the Research Committee and Management Group
  • Ensure ICRISAT scientists participate properly in the project
  • Maintain proper relations with the project donor and project partners
  • Receive consolidated reports from the Project Manager, making sure that they conform with the required standards, and submit these to the donor in accordance with the agreed timeline

Project Manager/Coordinator: Dr George E Okwach

The Project Coordinator is responsible for the overall implementation and coordination of the project, and serves as the project spokesperson. More specifically, his duties involve:

  • Liaise and follow up with Objective Leaders and Regional Coordinators and ensure the implementation of planned project activities
  • Ensure the timely dispatch of the necessary resources to all partners
  • Monitor progress towards milestones and ensure their timely completion
  • Receive reports from the Objective Leaders. Prepare and submit a consolidated report to the Principal Investigator
  • Serve as the Secretary to Technical Advisory Committee and Chair of the Project Management Team
  • Liaise with the project’s partners to coordinate activities
  • Represent the project in meetings and conferences
  • Ensure appropriate intra-Centre collaboration and collaboration with outside partners
  • Be an advocate to broaden the project donor base, including linkages with other cereal projects
  • Organize meetings (Annual Research Meetings and Advisory Group Meetings) and liaise with Objective Leaders and/or Regional Coordinators for the publication of results

Objective Leaders are responsible for the implementation of all activities that fall within their respective objectives. They report to the Project Coordinator, and liaise with the Principal Investigator. More specifically, they:

  • Ensure that all planned activities are implemented in a timely and professional manner
  • Ensure that the necessary materials (seed, funds, equipment, infrastructure) are delivered to partners on time
  • Ensure that all planned activities are carried out in a timely manner and relevant data is gathered, analyzed, synthesized and reported to the Project Manager for compilation, in accordance with agreed timelines
  • Collaborate with Regional Coordinators to assist graduate students with the placement process for universities/institutions, and follow-up on progress
  • Provide both formal and informal training and mentoring for scientists from NARS and within the team; and assist in the preparation of training materials, manuals and other publications
  • Ensure that partners submit financial and technical reports according to agreed timeline and procedures
  • Seek to introduce innovative approaches (through literature and direct personal experiences) into their Objectives for better performance
  • Reinforce inter-objective and inter-Center collaboration and maintain good relationship and rapport with partners and other stakeholders
  • Participate in the Annual Project Review and Planning meetings, and help achieve project milestones and objectives

  • Ensuring that the necessary materials (seed, funds, equipment, infrastructure) are delivered to partners on time
  • Ensuring that all planned activities are carried out in a timely manner, relevant data gathered, analyzed, synthesized and reported to the Objective Leaders
  • Assisting graduate students with the placement process for universities and institutions, and following-up on their progress
  • Ensuring that partners submit financial and technical reports according to the agreed timeline and procedure
